Meet the Team

Kara Smith - Partner

After working for legal aid for over 20 years and successfully completing two of her own renovations Kara decided to return to school to do what she loved, interior decorating. Kara graduated at top of her class from Humber College with a diploma of Interior Decorating in 2013.

During her spare time, Kara can be found walking her miniature dachshund, Churro, alongside her daughter, and design assistant, Chloe.

Melissa Clarke - Partner

Melissa graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Psychology. After graduating from University, Melissa worked for Corrections Canada counselling inmates. It wasn't until Melissa had a psychic reading where she was told she would have a career change that Melissa started to investigate her passion for interior design. She took a year off work to attend Humber college and has never looked back. Melissa graduated at the top of her class with a diploma of Interior Decorating in 2013.

During her spare time, Melissa loves to relax with yoga and meditation. Her summers are spent outdoors at the cottage as she loves being surrounded by nature.

When Kara Met Melissa

Kara and Melissa met on their first day in Drawing 101 at Humber College and have been inseparable since. Both came from a similar working background and found a common bond. During school they found themselves collaborating together on every project they could and would push each other during individual projects by bouncing ideas off each other. Once they graduated from Humber, it was only natural that they partner up to create Smith and Clarke Interiors.

Chloe Santillan - Design Assistant

Chloe is currently studying Biomedical Science at Ryerson University with dreams of becoming a doctor. When not at school, Chloe helps out her mom, Kara, with office tasks, installs and site visits.

Churro - Office Mascot

Churro was adopted by Kara and Chloe as a 2-month old puppy in July of 2019. Churro is a miniature dachshund with a heart of gold. From day one, Churro has been by Kara's side as she worked to complete projects for clients.

When off the job, Churro can be found running laps around the house, napping and begging for food.
